Stephen P. Leff, M.D.

Dr. Leff received his B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University in 1965 and his M.D. from the University of Rome, Italy in 1971. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology in Detroit at Sinai Medical Center in 1976. He has been in private practice since 1976.

Dr. Leff is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Decatur Hospital, past Chief of Ophthalmology of Dekalb Medical Center and past President of the Dekalb County Medical Society.

Dr. Leff received a 2008 “Certificate of Appreciation” from Dekalb Medical Center for 32 years of outstanding service to Dekalb Medical Center.

In 2009, he received the “Jack A. Raines, M.D. Humanitarian Award”. This award recognizes a physician who has made an outstanding humanitarian contribution to his fellow man and community beyond the normal practice of medicine. Dr. Leff was nominated by the Dekalb Medical Society. In 1991, Dr. Leff started treating children from limited-income families that were referred to him by the Dekalb County Board of Health, at no cost. He arranged surgery, pharmaceuticals and glasses for these patients. He and his office staff volunteered one Saturday per month over five year to provide this care. This model led to the development of the Physicians Care Clinic, which has been operating for nearly 18 year under the direction of Dekalb Medical Soceity.
