Meet the Doctors

Stephen P. Leff, M.D.

Dr. Leff received his B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University in 1965 and his M.D. from the University of Rome, Italy in 1971. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology in Detroit at Sinai Medical Center in 1976. He has been in private practice since 1976.

Dr. Leff is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology . He is a past Chairman of the Board of Decatur Hospital. He is presently Chief of Ophthalmology at Decatur Hospital and past President of the Dekalb County Medical Society.

Dr. Leff has been featured in the “Top Docs” edition of Atlanta Magazine for his expertise in cataract surgery and wonderful “bedside manner”.

Dr. Leff received a 2008 “Certificate of Appreciation” from Dekalb Medical Center for 32 years of outstanding service to Dekalb Medical.

Stephen P. Leff, M.D. is the recipient of the 2009 “Jack A. Raines, M.D. Humanitarian Award”. This award recognizes a physician who has made an outstanding humanitarian contribution to his fellow man and community beyond the normal practice of medicine. Dr. Leff was nominated by the Dekalb Medical Society. In 1991, Dr. Leff started treating children from limited-income families that were referred to him by the Dekalb County Board of Health at no cost. He arranged surgery, pharmaceuticals and glasses for these patients. He and his office staff volunteered one Saturday per month over five years to provide this care. This model led to the development of the Physicians Care Clinic, which has been operating for nearly 18 years under the direction of the Dekalb Medical Society. Dr. Leff still serves as a volunteer for the clinic. Reprinted from the 2009, Medical Association of Georgia magazine.

Gayle Leff Goldstein, M.D.

Dr. Leff Goldstein received her B.A. in Psychology from Boston University in 1991 and her M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 1997. She completed her residency in Ophthalmology in Detroit at the Kresge Eye Institute in 2001.

Dr. Leff Goldstein is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Leff Goldstein has been in private practice since 2001 and sees patients of any age. She specializes in cataract surgery, eyelid plastic surgery, diabetic and glaucoma exam, and LASIK vision correction.

Gayle Leff Goldstein, M.D received 2001 “Lawrence L. Stocker, M.D. Award for Compassionate Medicine” recognizing the resident who exhibits exemplary skills, kindness and caring the practice of medicine over and above a physician’s required duties.

Dr. Stephanie Sailor

Dr. Stephanie Sailor received her B.S. in Human Development from Cornell University in 1996 and her O.D. from State University of New York, State College of Optometry in 2000. Her externships included clinics such as ocular disease, low vision, pediatrics, and contact lens in both New York City and Atlanta.

Dr. Sailor is board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and the TMOD (Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease).

Dr. Sailor moved to Atlanta in 2003 after practicing optometry in New York for three years. She specializes in difficult contact lens fittings, including the new technology that corrects both distance and near vision. Additionally, Dr. Sailor treats red eyes, co-manages eye diseases, and can perform eye examinations in Spanish.

Stephanie Sailor, O.D. received the 2000 "Dr. Max Cohen Memorial Award" honoring her commitment to community service after she volunteered on two vision care missions in Nicaragua. She was also awarded the "Esther J. Werner Memorial Scholarship" which recognized her extra-curricular involvement and outstanding academic record.
