LASIK
Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis is a surgical procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea (the clear covering of the front of the eye) using an excimer laser.
Dr. Leff and Dr. Goldstein use specific calculations to guide the laser to correct the imperfections causing your blurry vision. LASIK can be used to correct nearsightedness, Farsightedness and Astigmatism.
Drs Leff and Goldstein offer both traditional LASIK and CustomVue individualized laser vision correction. CustomVue is an individualized laser vision correction procedure that is wave scan driven. This technology allows the doctor to measure and correct imperfections that are unique to each individual's vision.
LASIK is performed on an outpatient basis and takes about 10 minutes per eye. Vision often improves soon after surgery and becomes stable within 4-6 weeks.
You and your doctor will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure based on multiple criteria including:
- Stable refractive error
- Refractive error within a treatable range
- Medical and Eye conditions: glaucoma, cataracts, severe dry eyes, congenital or progressive eye disease, and inflammatory diseases (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus etc).
- Certain Medications
- Pregnancy and Nursing
Before the procedure, come to GA Ophthalmology for a free evaluation. Please do not wear you soft contact lenses for at least 1 week (RGP lenses 2 weeks) prior to your visit.
After a brief exam, checking your glasses, contact prescription, auto refraction and keratometry, and medical and eye history we can discuss if you are a good candidate.
If you decide to schedule LASIK, we will have you return for a very extensive exam that can take up to 1 ½ hours. This is necessary for you to have the best possible results from your procedure. You will also be required to stay out of your lenses 2-4 week depending on your corneal measurements and type of contact lens wearers.
The Fee for LASIK surgery includes your pre-operative evaluation; follow up care, surgeon’s fee and the Laser Center facility charges. Dr. Leff and Dr. Goldstein are personally involved in all aspects of your vision care.
We use “top of the line” lasers (VISX) for this procedure and a “top of the line” facility.
